WEIRDEST GIVEAWAY EVER

the DOOD weighed four pounds when I rescued him last year, but he was a kitten back then. Over the past year the DOOD's been growing. About six months ago I noticed he was getting BIG and I mean BIG, not exactly chubby but large in size. I referred to him as a “ham hock” when people remarked on his girth. He's young and should increase in size, to a point but when is he going to STOP growing?

I just weighed him.

I almost fainted when I saw the results.

the DOOD still runs around but can't quite get “hang time” when he jumps after a toy. His back legs are a bit bowed. He wipes out if he runs too fast. If he decides it's time for lap time with me, I KNOW he's on my lap because I feel like I just got pinned to the sofa.

Before you start guessing he weighs 30 pounds, he doesn't. He's nowhere near a record breaking size, but…I will tell you he weighed 14 lbs, 4 oz in April. He doesn't get overfed. He doesn't get kibble. He DOES get broccoli, which he loves, but is pretty much not something that would ever make him fat.

Today's contest: Guess the DOOD's weight. I have him weighed on my scale here AND I'm getting him weighed at my Vet's office this afternoon. I will take the average of those two weights and use that for my result.

The “WINNER” who guesses closest to the DOOD's weight gets a copy of the “5th Edition: Small Animal Clinical Nutrition.” (brought to you by Hill's) It is supposedly THE most comprehensive guide to small animal nutrition. This tome includes nutrition for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and other small mammals. It has contributions by over 125 authors. Do I agree with what it says? I don't know yet, but I'm guessing it will be steering readers away from raw food so I would say I might find fault. Thing is, this guide covers nutrition guidelines YOUR VET REFERS TO, so good to know what they are going to tell you about nutrition IF they read the gazillion pages of this book.

16.2 lbs

He looks to be around 18 pounds, 3 ounces.  If I'm going to guess, why not be specific? :)

I have a ragdoll that is 18 months old and weighs around 14+ pounds.  They say ragdolls don't stop growing until around 3 years, so I'll bet he'll be north of 20 pounds eventually.  Like the Dood, he also tends to wipe out when chasing a toy or my two tabbies.  He looks like a cartoon character when he takes off on a tile floor, his legs windmilling and for a moment not going anywhere.

I enjoy your blogs, even the ones that sometimes involve tragic circumstances.  I've donated money towards Tater, so I hope he's doing better since you last commented on him.

Keep up the good work!

18.2 lbs

18.2 lbs

oops LOL

Since I have a hamhock kitty that looks similar in size, I'll guess 17.7lbs

I'm guessing 19 1/2 lbs...I have a 30 lber that's been as high as 33 lbs (my vet tells me the largest cat in the practice is 35 lbs). Heffernan is fluffy and fat...eats a measured diet and has been tested for every medical issue under the sun. He has zero interest in anything (other than Da bird!) and prefers sleeping to just about anything else!

17.6 is my guess!

16 pounds 4 ounces

One dollar!

Wait? What?

Oh!! 17.8 oz? DOOOOOOOOD!

16 pounds 4 ounces

16.5 lbs of pure Doodness!

All I can say is, "Dood, I feel your pain!"  ...as do many of us humans, I'm sure!  You're beautiful, man.

My guess is 15lbs 13 ozs

Love that Dood belly :)

My guess is 16.9

I am going to guess 21 lbs.  Massive kitties are common place here.  Mojo the maine coon cross weighed 28lbs in his prime, without being fat.  Kali was a rotund 23, and Monti tips the scale at 17.4lbs.

14 lbs. 8oz

I'm gonna guess 16.6

I am going to guess that Dood weighs 21.5 pounds.

So I'm guessing 19 pounds 2 oz.

My brother and SIL have 2 Doods.  Slim is 19 pounds and not-so-slim is 23 pounds.  They were bottle babies and they've been dieting for 10 years.  Not-so-slim slim did lose a pound or 2, but gained it back.  Their food is up high so the dogs don't eat it and my SIL has to lift not-so-slim up to the food dish because he's too lazy to climb up.  Of course, if his mom isn't home, he climbs up without any problems...

Dood looks slightly smaller than Slim so 19 2 it is.

Val

PS:  The kitties names are Oscar and Felix but I cannot remember who is who so I call them slim and not so slim.
