Not on My Watch: Along Came Cheech

cheech_sm.jpg

This sweet little fella wasn't doing so well when I picked him up from our Director a few days ago. Two young boys found him in a dumpster, filthy and starving. I was scared he'd die before I even got him to the Vet (which I admit to driving a weeeee bit over the speed limit to get him there quick).

Cheech needed a lot of care, so he stayed at the Vet for the weekend. We were all worried that the call would come in saying he'd passed away.

But Cheech is a plucky little kitten and after a bath, some fluids, antibiotics, good food and some rest, he started to perk up.

I got eated by a mousey.jpg

Cheech got to hang out with Kringle, the last kitten from GA to get adopted. Their friendship was short lived. Kringle went to her forever home today. Her adopter's daughter got Kringle for her birthday gift. When she realized she could take the kitten home she screamed aloud; “I gotta kitty! I gotta kitty! I gotta kitty!”

I feel badly that Cheech is alone. My efforts to pull a dozen (the Twelve Cats of Christmas!) have failed. I've rescued NINE cats so far, but the remaining three...well I don't have a GA Rescue license and sadly, things are too busy with other rescues to add mine to the mix. I am determined to take more on as soon as I can.

Meanwhile, Cheech will enjoy the comforts of a warm room and enjoy driving me crazy by finding a way to get behind the TV, which requires me to take way too many things out of the way to get at him. I've blocked off the access, but I swear he can slip through objects to hide. I'm annoyed I've been outsmarted by a KITTEN!

Chee-chee is a cutie pants, so he has that going for him. That and the biggest, roundest belly I have ever seen. He's been de-wormed. Hopefully it's nothing more than that. I need to get this boy healthy and relaxed and ready for his forever home! I think he's well on his way.

P.S. I did NOT retouch his eye color! Yes, they ARE amazing!

So freakin cute! You take such good care of them. :)

he is gorgeous i wish i lived on the east coast i would love to adopt him but i know you will find him an excellent forever home and i already have 5 wonderful cats now not sure if i could really take on another

Love the photos and hearing about amazing saves like this one!

Does your rescue work with a particular Vet.? Do they give you a good price?
The one I am helping with up here gets 50% off their bill, but I still think the two
ladies hesitate way too much when it comes to taking sick rescues to the Vet.
We have had two shelter deaths since in the last month. They were both VERY shy
ferral kitties but I think the cats should go in
for a check right after they arrive. But they do the vaccinations themselves so this
doesn't happen. I wish they would get them ALL checked out.

I did get the OK to take Phoebe into the Vet tomorrow for a blood test.
The baby food eating didn't last long! So I am back to the syringe. Poor girl!
She is so patient but getting a bit frustrated with me doing this.

...we work with a few different Vets who are kind enough to give us very discounted rates on their services. Most charge way too high a price for things. We also just got a low cost S/N clinic that opened. It's a bit far to drive, but if we get into a jam we can go-or send other folks there who need a break with costs.

I hope poor Phoebe comes around. I am so worried about her!!!

that you take amazing pics of your babies. Really, they look fantastic. Are you a professional photographer? If not, you have def talent for it, esp with pets! :D

Thank you, Izzy! I've done photography since I was 4. I majored in it in college, but then slipped over to graphic design afterwards. :-)

Than the picture on the Animal Center site - amazing what a few days of warmth and food can do! Good luck - he will definitely find a forever home quick - he is a looker.

Sorry about the 3 you couldn't break out of GA. But you are still saving 9! Hmmmmm 9 kittens - sounds like a good opportunity to name them after the Brady Bunch?????

Cheech is so lucky to have you! His after picture looks like a different kitten- he has done so well! I would like to slap whomever put him in the dumpster. Sorry about the last 3 GA cats but 9 is an amazing number!

cheech cleans up verrrrrrrry nicely!!

Cheech is lovely.
I'm proud of the 2 boys who found him and made the eoffort to get him to someone who could help. (Perhaps with the help of their families?) They were a critical link in the chain.
