Foster Cat Journal: Guilt

Okay, now what do I do? Huggy is home and happy and her boys are locked up in the dog crate, climbing up the sides of the cage, trying to get out. They cry, look at me with those little sad faces that beg to know why I'm being so mean to them!

So I left the room. I couldn't be in it. I wanted to hang out with Huggy and let her rest on my lap. I decided to just let her rest on her own. I came back hours later with her next round of meds. I got her to take everything by hiding them in tiny portion of "kitty crack" (e.g., Solid Gold canned tuna). I scooped the rest out onto two plates; one for her and one for the kittens to share. I lifted her carefully and unlocked the crate, letting the kittens free and locking her safely inside with her dinner. She looked up at me with those big, knowing, green eyes and went back to her food. She'd eat because the food was so tasty, but was resigned to being locked up yet again.

Dash and Snuggles raced around the room, finally free after a day in captivity. They attacked their food dish with great enthusiasm now that they can no longer get snacks from Huggy's sore mammary glands. They'll be free until the morning. Then I switch them back into the crate.

There's no winning here. Someone has to be locked up. It's either that or I have to put some of them into the bathroom and leave the other/s behind in the guest room. Then they'll each get even less time with me because I'll have to bounce between rooms and the bathroom isn't exactly full of soft, comfortable places to sit, if you get my drift.

It's only for a week...well, a week until Huggy's re-check at the Vet. Then she'll let me know if it's all right for Huggy to be reunited with her kittens and I can go back to feeling guilty about something else.

Poor Huggy. Poor Dash & Snuggles. Poor me. Boo-hoo. I know. Get over it. It's a week. Sheesh.

You tell them, that.

Hi Robin-
I am so sorry you have to be stuck in the middle of trying to do the right thing for
little kitties and their Mama. But if Huggy is recouperating and needs lots of rest maybe
a cosy bed for a few days in the bathroom wouldn't be so bad? The kittens are going to have
so much pent up energy it might make more sense to let them be out and about for at least the
immediate future.

One question I wanted to ask...are the release of the cats Baby Girl & Tux totally contingent
on this cash? I have given money before but the info they have seems a bit suspect. Maybe
it just comes off that way. I think they need to write new copy for these appeals.
They could be in a emotional state but they sound strange and have me worried.
Why wouldn't the shelter just hand them over if they were going to
gas them. Is it really $600 just to get them out? I just don't understand why they wouldn't just
give them to Winging Cat Rescue. Why do the make it sound like they will ONLY be free if they
get a certain amount of money. Seems a bit weird?
Is this rescue effort 100% legit? If it is, you may suggest that the redo their info releases.
They just seem strange. I don't know how to explain it, but the wording seems like it is a scam.

Thanks so much!
Michelle

I know these folks, Michelle. They've helped me bust out Huggy and Last Chance. They are 100% legit. The reason for the costs is because the cats are going to be placed at a Sanctuary where they won't have to worry about being adopted. This is their best chance since one of the cats is 12.

The Sanctuary charges a fee of $200 per cat, to help cover the costs for their care, so right there we're at $400. The remaining money is budgeted for Vet costs and any transportation fees. If you have more questions please contact Winging directly and either Barb or one of her associates will gladly review the costs with you and give you more information. I donated money last night and will continue to do so. Barb does life-saving work, especially for the Spaulding GA shelter and it's up to us to help support that mission.

I'm glad you asked and I hope this helps.

Winging's email: info@wingingcatrescue.org

If you contact me privately, I'll send you the email add'y of Barb.
