Not on My Watch: More Cats in Need at Henry County

We got lucky with KoKo (now named, Sophie). She got away, when another cat, who was also dumped, was euthanized last night. I don't know if we'll ever be able to get the numbers down to the point where this isn't an issue. Every time I post about cats in need, I think; “we can't save this one...” then somehow, many times, we do or others step forward to help. I don't know if I have the stomach to keep letting you all know about these cats, but I don't know that I would sleep if I just kept the news to myself. I get so many notices about cats in need. It's just heartbreaking.

So once again, we have some cats. Three. Let's get the word out on them. They each are special and each only have a few days before their time is up, too. Let's try our best for them.

Cat One: Jill Ann ID# 8/18-3471

From Betsy: “Jill Ann was left behind by a roommate, the remaining roommate turned her in here as a stray. I guess its a good thing, this lovely girl is all matted and you can feel her bones.

She is beyond sweet and wants to snuggle everyone. Please help us spare this great cats life. She did not deserve the hand she was dealt by irresponsible humans!”

Cat Two: ID# 8/18-3310

From Betsy: “This boy is bar far one of our favorites, he is SO funny and playful. He sits up on his fanny like a Meer Kat? and wants only to get petted. He is not swatting at a toy, he was trying to reach our kennel masters hand because she stopped petting him!

This boy cannot die here, he has so much personality and such a strong will to live. Too bad more people do not visit in person to see these great babies live.......they are all so special.

How sad that more than half die here.

PLEASE change the world for this kitten.”

Cat Three: Injured Dilute Calico ID# 8/18-3468

From Betsy: “Gorgeous dilute Calico girl seems to have an older injury to her right hip area, the bone protrudes more than on the left side and the thigh has no muscle mass at all. She can walk but does not use the leg much and sits a lot.

We are not vets and cannot really diagnose what is going on here but she is so stinking sweet and just adorable. We could not put her down without making an attempt to post for help.

Robin - I notified the Maine Coon Rescue group about Jill Ann - she looks like she might be Maine Coon to me. Hope that helps her get out.

Peace, Plenty and Purrs,
Memory and the cat crew

Robin,
The tuxedo kitty looks like my late Mama Kitty. She was a cat I had for ten years, passing away, (literally slipping away in the middle of the night, after being ok the night before) last summer. She was probably 15, having been a feral outside my house in Michigan, populating the neighborhood (and I have her daughters and grandkids) for some time before I got her inside. I had been feeding her for years and my vet had said she would spay her for half price if I could get her. I was working with animal control (the ACO remains a friend and does try to save animals) during a rabies outbreak where we were placing live traps to catch the skunks who were the source of the rabies. Mama Kitty, christened so by my vet, turned up in one of those traps and was rushed into the vet by me right before they closed for the day. "Aunt Dr. Linda" (my best friend's sister-in-law) spoke gently to her and spayed her the next day. Mama Kitty was returned to me and I was instructed to keep her indoors for a few days. I did that, keeping her in a greyhound sized crate (huge, I'd fostered a boy for 3 weeks, he was enormous) with food, water, litter and a soft bed. I would get down and pet her. Soon she was coming out and on my lap. She was the first cat to fit in and make herself at home down here after my sudden move to NC. I was crushed when she died. I still miss her. She was thin too, most likely from thyroid, we were going to have her checked the next week. She ate well and was active, even at her advanced age, despite chronic rhinitis that she had for many years.
I do not have a lot of money and with my friend, Carol, in ill health and coming home after Labor Day, I could not take this kitty, but I would be willing to send $20-30 to help sponsor her when my Social Security comes.

Bless your hearts, Ladies. I hope Jill somewhere feels the affection you offered her.
I'm thinking a lot about Besty. What a rough job she has. Her heart must break daily. I don't think I have the strength to do what she does. I hope big funding for Henry Co. comes along from somewhere, they can afford to turn it into a no kill, and they give Betsy a big salary and every good bye she says is to a kitty who is leaving her for a loving family.
