When the Rescuer Needs Rescue

I've gotten many emails and comments on our Facebook page about Bob. Every single one of them, supportive and loving-offering prayers and help, whatever it takes. It means so much to me, that I can't even write the words to express how I feel. I'm sitting here crying. I'm so touched and grateful. I honestly don't feel like I deserve it. I know everyone out there is having a tough time. Every single one of you has challenges and heartache. I wish I could share all the love and support I get right back with all of you.

Quite a few folks have asked me to put up a ChipIn widget for anyone who wants to kick in a few dollars to help me pay for Bob's Vet Bill, which right now is about $5000.00. I'm not looking for a handout, but I won't turn away these offers of help any more, either. Sam and I have had a Hell of a bad few years and lately we've both been terribly depressed, wondering if we will EVER see things improve.

I feel really awkward putting up this ChipIn, but for those of you who like my work and appreciate all the advice and support I've given back, then if you want to consider it as giving me a "tip" for my good efforts or my writing, or if you want to do it in honor or Bob, then this is the time to do it.

Whatever you do, don't do anything that will put YOU into trouble. If you want to skip one cup of take out coffee and donate that to Bob's bill, then that would be mighty fine by me. I don't expect to raise $5000.00, but heck, if someone is flush with cash and loves my work, heck I would just about faint if we hit a goal like that.

Anyway...here you go. ChipIn to your hearts content.

Thank you to Izzy and Ivy and Maria and so many others for asking me to do this and to all of you for caring about Bob-and me. It is a gift like no other.

It seems the least we can do for the amount you do for so many kitties. The best part was getting the receipt saying I contributed to "Bob Dole's Vet bill." My republican mom would be so proud of her diligent democrat daughter. Sending positive wishes for your Bob Dole!

feel better, knowing we can help you. We read about your and Bob's struggles and we want to help. You do so much for the kitties and ask nothing for yourself. I am glad you agreed to let us help. :)

We just admire you so much for all you do for all the kitties and for Bob too. We will keep sending purrs for Bob also. Wish we could do more.

I have been following your blog for about a year now and have finally decided to comment. I have an elderly boy too (14 years old) and I truly feel for you and all these difficult decisions you've had to make with Bob. I wish I could help but I'm unemployed and just can't swing it right now. I was actually inspired by you and Itty Bitty Kitty Committee to foster since I'm unemployed and have the free time and love to give. Bob is a very lucky cat to have a loving mom like you. =)

I've been following your blog for about 2 years and have sent a few things to you via Twitter. I figured it was time to give back what little I could for all the hours of stories and entertainment you given, as well as for all the amazing rescue work you've done. Thanks for everything Robin.

My only old man cat (almost 16) was quite ill last week and earlier this week. By the time I'd gotten him to the vet, he was down to 10 pounds from his healthy 16 pounds. He's much better now (I think he's taking the same antihistamine pill for appetite that Bob is and it seems to be doing wonders because he's eating up a storm), but I'd be a basket case if it was anything worse than it was. I don't have a lot of money but it seemed only right that I donate a little, since I count us very lucky.

Another member of the Socks army checking in with a donation. My cats are Oreo and Tigger, and I recently lost my little Esmerelda who I loved very much. Our four legged family members are important parts of our lives, and I am glad to chip in.

Stay strong! I lost my 12 year old cat when I was in grad school because I couldn't afford to treat her cancer. I'll NEVER forget that loss and the feeling of being punched in the stomach when I realized I couldn't save her. My prayers are with you.

Hi Robin and family! As a writer, you might qualify for some assistance from Animal Care for Artists. Please visit www.animalcareforartists.org and check out the information. Contact us should you have any questions.

My cat had a liver shunt when she was a kitten. $4000 total in bills. We did fund raisers, my daughter did nickel and dime-ing at school, you name it. I know how hard it can be. Good luck to you!

I chipped in because I know what this is like. I have fostered and volunteered and helped kitties and there is nothing more rewarding then helping them when they can't help themselves. My 20 y/o Himalayan's vet bills always shock me, but there is no amount of money to equal the love and joy I get from her. My prayers are with Bob and you and all your sweet kitties.

You are a good person, Robin. I'm happy that I can help a little with all your hard work and good deeds.

Best of luck to Bob, and his family...
