Another Victim of the Recession & a Broken Hearted Plea for Help

This is one of the saddest things I've ever read. I can feel this person's pain in giving up their companion, Scotch. They must have really been in a tough place to have to make such a decision. At least he or she was compassionate enough to hope that by leaving their cat in a crate by the door of my Vet's office that he would take in this homeless cat and give him the care and shelter he desperately needs. I'm really proud of everyone at my Vet's office for going out of their way to give this guy the medical attention and love he needs.

I realize you could look at this note and think that the person who wrote it was cruel, but I don't believe that. I believe they didn't realize they could ask for help and that there are many people who could have stepped in so this person didn't have to lose their beloved friend.

If I could talk to this person, I'd tell them that their cat is being looked after. His broken tooth will be removed and his bad allergies to something are being treated. In good time and with any luck, he'll be looking great and feeling great, too. If you had to surrender your cat, at least you did what you could to be kind to him, as it's obvious this cat has known love.

Orange Cat, as he is called now, perked up when I first met him. He started to "knead" the floor of his cage before I even petted him. I'm told he would rather be petted than play with any toy. He seems to be very mellow and sweet. He even "chatted" with me a bit when I spoke to him.

Orange Cat is between 8-9 years old. Is neutered and UTD on his shots. He's being treated for dermatitis, which may or may not be something his new owner will have to work with. Other than that, he's robust and sweet and outgoing.

Is there any way to post a sign in front of the clinic telling the owner that Orange Cat is doing well and trying to hook the owner up with a pet food pantry in the area so she/he can keep a loved one? There are also grants available to help. You know how pained they must be about the loss. Especially during these hard times. Orange Cat could be all the family he/she has. How good it would be to send Orange Cat home. Maybe the local tv station could help with a story about Orange Cat. Please find Orange Cat's owner.

Wow, I found my way here via Flickr and my heart is just shattered for Orange Cat's family . My son was born 3 1/2 months early and ended up with a trach and I had to downsize my "kitty zoo" and find new homes for 2 of them , it was like giving up my child and over three years later I still ache when I think of them.

I can see by the "M" on Orange Cat's forehead over his eyes ( and other obvious charastics ) that he is a Maine Coon cat, I recently inherited one after the recent death of my mom , and he is one of the most amazing cats I have ever had the pleasure of living with. So laid back , my son is fasicnated with tugging on his big fluffy tail and the cat just looks at us like " Can you get this kid off of me please ... " As for rather being petting than playing with a toy , that reminds me of my cat so much it made me laugh out loud . Claude, LOVED to be petted, brushed and loved on more than anything in the world. Maine Coons are wonderful for older or disabled people who want a special companion with lots of personality who will often speak up when asked a question as well as with families with small children as they are very tolerant, obviously.

Best of luck at finding Orange Cat a new home, after reading that haunting note how I wish it was mine ! Please keep us updated and thank you for caring about these animals that need help.

Orange Cat def. is a Maine Coon, at least a mix if not full. He's almost a twin to my own cat, Bob Dole, who I, too, inherited from my Mother after she passed away three years ago. Bob is one of the nicest, most mellow cats I've ever known. He has a crazy purr and likes to chat. I think that OC will find his way to a new home, if he can't go back to his original home. I've heard that many cats average 3 or 4 homes until they find their forever home. I know Bob is on home number 3, at least and so are most of my other cats.

I'll keep you all posted as to OC's next journey. Right now he's in good hands and getting the care and love he needs.

It seems to me that his former owner still loves Scotch, and in all probability would love to be reunited with him. Scotch probably has a home, but he lacks a budget. Finding a charitible way to provide for Scotch's upkeep would reunite him with his person, and very likely brighten the lives of both.
