SHAME ON YOU, DUDLEY, MA!

this will result in mass euthansia of cats and kittens because now potential homes will not be allowed to adopt if they already have 3 cats and there will be nowhere for these unwanted cats to go.

I foresee a major legal battle and repercussions that they never intended.

Idiots.

This is a perfect example of good intentions going horribly wrong. I am guessing that this "law" was intended to stop hoarders or those who can not properly take care of multiple animals... I can't imagine that they intended to increase the number of animals that won't be able to find homes... distressing.

I really dislike this kind of law. And I get the idea it was enacted against this one rescuer, not as a general purpose law. My own town in Washington state restricts pet ownership to 4 animals, so with 5 cats and a dog I'm in violation. They are now requiring licensing.. so if I license am I turning myself in?
The real deal seems to be that unless a neighbor complains about you the town doesn't seek violaters out, but I do worry.
In my case, the area has a bit of a rodent infestation. All my neighbors welcome my cats because they chase the more objectionable critters off.

Great idea: I'm a childless widow who pays more than 10k a year in property taxes each year. Why not require a license for people with more than 3 kids? Day care license? Could generate a good sum of money for the schools.

Preposterous? Yes. But so is passing a reactionary law based on the irresponsible actions of one individual. Certainly this woman could be sited under some existing nuisance law. My significant other and I have a combined 6 rescue cats. All well-cared for (my Hurricane Katrina rescue cat needs a $1200 operation this week; it was either that or shocks for my car - guess which I chose?!) All the people I know who have more than 3 cats are kind, caring people trying to give abandoned, sick or abused animals a chance at a happy life. (and most of us keep our cats indoors). To penalize people like us shows a fundamental lack of humanity. I'm glad I don't live in Dudley.

Cat owners rise up and claw the stuffing out of injustice!
