Not on My Watch: Failure & Heatbreak

I'm very sorry to report that this Mama & her babies were euthanized the afternoon I posted an urgent plea for someone to step up to rescue them. Apparently the Kennel Master at Henry County "Care" & Control did not know that Betsy was trying to get them help. Due to overcrowding, he killed these animals to make room for more (more, to be killed later, no doubt, to make room for countless others to keep that cycle of intake, then killing going).

Don't want to know sad stories? Then turn away. But doing just that, was the reason why ALL these kittens and their Mama are DEAD now. We need to face this tragedy so we can FIX IT. It hurts. I have tears streaming down my face while I write this, but because I KNOW I want to do more. I hope you'll considering finding your path to help shelter animals all over the world avoid this same fate.

I ask all of you to join me in finding a way to END this horrific MURDER of innocent animals. I'm sick and tired of excuses, of people finding some bullshit reason as to why it's still OKAY for this to go on-because if their answer has to do with MONEY or "that's just how people are," then that's no fucking answer. WE HUMANS CREATED this PROBLEM. WE NEED TO LOOK THIS TRAGEDY IN THE EYE AND SAY; NO MORE!!.

NO MORE!

NO MORE!

Oh god....I feel sick just from reading this.

The poor babies....

The message HAS TO BE spaying and neutering. It has to be.
I don't know how to get this message out there....
I just keep donating to shelters and places that offer free spaying and neutering.
I just joined Toronto Cat Rescue this month. I put my $ where my mouth is....as this is like the 6th place
I have joined in the past few months who rescues and neuters.
But the message just isn't focused on enough to say the least....
I wish a powerful organization like PETA would spend some $ to start driving this point home.

It has to start with spaying and neutering. But more importantly, how do we get the laws changed? The very idea that a momma and her kittens be pts, makes me sick to my stomach. Especially in the way that they are put down.

All of my cats are rescues and if I didn't step in- they would have suffered the same fate. No animal should have to be pts because there is no room, because of overcrowding, that is madness. What can we do?

I would like to see some laws passed that prohibit property owners from discriminating against tenants with pets. I can't count the number of heartbreaking pleas I've read or heard from people who have to move and are forced to give up an animal. Landlords often limit the number of pets a tenant can have, or they charge an additional security fee -- sometimes for each pet. I know that property owners have a vested interest in preventing major damage to their property, but a little wear and tear from a pet or a tenant ought to be seen as the result of reasonable use. I think we could open up a lot of homes for animals if we could get landlords to stop excluding them.

I do think spay/neuter is important. But I don't think cost or lack of education prevent people of getting that service. In my area, there are vets who offer deep discounts and groups who offer services for free. I think there's plenty of education out there. It's more like people don't care -- they define animals as something more disposable than any of us would. I'm afraid those folks aren't reachable and so if society can open up other avenues.. helping people who want to keep a pet responsibly to have the right to do so, encouraging office cats, warehouse cats... it might be of value.

That is just so sad. :(

that's exactly it. WE. HUMANS created this problem.

What i want to know is WHO IN THE FUCK is pulling the trigger? and HOW the HELL do they sleep at night?

I am forwarding this post to my congresspeople.

"What i want to know is WHO IN THE FUCK is pulling the trigger? and HOW the HELL do they sleep at night?"

From what I've read, it's a job no one likes that can take quite a toll on people. The woman who founded PETA has written about an early job at a kill-'shelter' that was really part of radicalizing her.

At times I regret spaying/neutering my pets, it would be so nice to have kittens around. But could I place them.. Doubtful. So I'd what ?... make it someone else's job to 'pull the trigger'? Coward's way out, what a violence to do not just to the animal but also to the psychic well-being of another human being.

Well, I'm tired and I guess it's showing.

:( :( *sobs*

Barb fro WCR thought they'd been rescued. Someone was supposed to take them. :( Now it's too late.

Damn.

How can beautiful lives like these be snuffed out so pointlessly? I am heartbroken for the these kittens learning to love life and people and the mama learning to trust.

These poor, poor creatures. I don't know what else to say now.

Auww those poor babies!!! WHat kind of IDIOTS can purposely hurt any animals??! I mean, you seriously have to be deranged if you could sleep at night and do those things.
I do agree that it starts with spaying and neutering!
But who knows how to get all these messages out to everyone??
*Praying for all other animals. And hoping that someday there will be an end to this cruelty and ignorance.*

I'm already OTRB, I was 18yrs. My life was dedicated to rehoming unwanted animals....especially elderly unwanted ones. This story makes me determined to continue my work of "Awareness", even though I've already passed & could rightly rest on a comfy cloud. But how can any of us rest when stuff like this is 2nd nature to so many people? When I sign off I'll ride up to the Bridge in my Pram & put Mama & her kittehs in & bring them to a happy place.
