Foster Cat Journal: AT LAST!!!!!

The first hint of Spring arrived today with sunny skies and the first temperatures over 50°F. A perfect day for our Adoption Event!

Comet and Rudy, two of Santa's Team, were able to be at the event. Sadly my guys had to stay home due to Blitzen still having ringworm. In a way, I was glad. I don't want them to go, but they're all so big and feisty. I know they need more space to play in and I know they're ready to go, too.

I already had pre-approved a nice couple from right here in Newtown to adopt Rudy & Comet, but I wasn't sure that they were going to stop by today. I didn't have to wait long to find out. Shortly after we got set up, they introduced themselves and asked to meet the kitties.

Jennifer was delayed. Traffic was halted on the Interstate, so they waited around and we chatted. They seem like great folks, have one other cat and are hoping to add two more to their family.

When Jennifer arrived, I felt a mix of dread and joy. I knew this was going to be hard on her and her husband, but I knew it was time for Rudy and Comet to start the next part of their journey-and hopefully their last.

The couple was smitten. Jennifer got to quiz them and make sure that they were the right family for her fosters. Everyone agreed it was a good match so we filled out the Contract and handed over their medical records and the last bit of Rudy's medicine. Jennifer got teared up, but did a great job not balling her head off! I can't say I would have done as well. I had to fight back tears, too. These two cats almost died—first they were saved from a Kill Shelter, then arrived in such poor condition that I almost lost them, then. Comet has gained about 4 lbs. Rudy, the same. They both survived their battles and are loving, wonderful creatures. I couldn't help but think about that as I loaded them into their cat carrier and said by goodbye to them.

Tomorrow, Donner and Prancer will probably be adopted and Monday, may see Dancer and yes, CUPID being adopted, as well. That will leave me with Blitzen, who has to stay with us until his 30 day ringworm treatment is over...or...maybe he'll stay a bit longer? We'll see.

For now, let's raise our glasses high and drink deeply in the satisfaction that another two lives are truly saved. We won another battle! Hurrah!

Rumor has it that Rudy and Comet may be renamed; Leroy and Ziva from NCIS! Seen here with their new family! Yay!

Mom and dad look like a lovely couple! You and Jennifer and everybody involved in their rescue have just given both adopters and adopted about 20 years of joy. Comet reminds me so much of my Ruthie, and we all know that black kitties can be tough to place, so I was especially pulling for her and Rudy (who, incidentally, shares a name with a former shelter house cat that my friend Kathy adopted. He is deaf and probably has some inbreeding-related issues as he was rescued from his less-than-responsible first owners during a house fire, yet Rudy is a joy to Kathy's home.)

Robin - great job - I couldn't believe the turnout and it was sort of crazy and sorry we didn't have time to chat. We need more kitties for these events!!!! Looks like Tilly and Martini have some good applicants and will be finding homes very soon!

we were SO busy I didn't get a chance to even TALK to you!!!! How nuts is that? Plus, I had a surprise-two of my cousins showed up and I haven't seen either of them in over a year! Glad your kitties found good homes. They were the delight of the crowd, that's for sure!

It seems like these events are a HUGE success - MORE KITTIES - demand is high!

They look like a nice couple! I hope they have many happy years with their new friends!!! I approve of the names, BTW.

Ah, even I hate to see them go. I've been in love with that wide stare! Looks like some very happy cat parents there, though. Good sign!

I'm so glad this crew is starting to find permanent homes! Everyone looks so happy, both the couples and the kitties. (Of course, we don't see the weepy foster parents!)

congrats to the new parents and the kitties too! and to you and jennifer as well for saving them. THIS is where you look back at the past few months and say it was all worth it (i hope).

Regardless of the toll it takes on us-it is ALWAYS worth it as long as the survive and thrive and get into a great home!!!!

:-D

It was all worth it! Congratulations on a fantastic job and best wishes to Leroy, Ziva and their new loving parents.
Awesome job!

Oh how wonderful! It's great news that two of your kitties have now found "forever homes"! After all the hard work you and Jennifer have put in... However sad to lose them, it must be satisfying to know you both helped to save their lives (literally), restore their health and find them happiness. Their new parents look so nice. And they still have each other's company (and hopefully a new friend, in the form of their adopters' other cat!).

Fabulous Robin, just great stuff! I'm quite teary myself. You Rock!

those adorable fur balls look VERY happy.

Cats KNOW who will love them, and these guys know they will be loved in their new home - may all furry ones be so lucky!
